Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio 20 February 1937, to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had worked for a long time as a housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was the first child of six. Her father was a fan of music and loved to play records at home. It had a huge influence on her as a child. As a young girl she was already able to establish a strong sense of her identity and the things she wanted to be. Church choirs helped develop this talent. At the age of 16 the singer began appearing regularly on Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when won the TV talent show. At the age of fifteen, she began her professional career at nightclubs. Nancy quit Central State University in Ohio after she matriculated for an entire year. She made her first recording with Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, which she sang with from 1956 to 1958. As part of the group, Nancy recorded her first album in the studio of Dot Records. Cannonball addederley recommended that she relocate to New York for her career, and in 1959 she relocated into The Big Town. Within a month she got an offer to sing at The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx where Adderley's agent heard her, and she was signed. He obtained a contract for with Capitol records in 1960, and she debuted the following year with the single. Guess whom I am seeing this morning. Capitol Records came out with five Nancy Wilson albums over a time span of 2 years. She began by focusing on R&B, but under Adderley's influence, she began to embrace jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to bring her to the forefront as well as her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. The song led to a performance at the New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she was a household name.
